What is your favorite bong type?
Bongs come in many shapes and sizes. This post discusses the various types of bongs, including types of materials used for construction, their size, and their function. A bong is an essential part of the weed smoker’s arsenal and there are many reasons to invest in a high quality one. They come in many shapes and sizes so it is important to know what each one can offer you before making a purchase decision.
Water Bong
A water bong is perhaps the most common type and is constructed with three main components: the bong itself, a bowl, and a down stem or slide. The actual bong and down stem are usually made from glass, while the slide is typically made from metal or silicone.
It is important to note that a water pipe/bong does not actually contain any water. When we say “water pipe” we simply mean that it utilizes water in order to filter your smoke before inhalation. If you want to see how a bong works, check out this post on How Bongs Work.
Straight Tube Bong
Straight tubes are also popular because they are easy to store and clean. Most water pipes are made of glass but there are also metal ones that can be a little cheaper. The down stem or slide is made of metal or silicone and usually serves as a place to put your mouth. These pipes are best used for simple smokes and need to be cleaned very carefully.
Along with the basic straight tube, there are also pipes, known as ‘bongs’, that resemble a wide vertical tube with a bowl at the bottom and an elbow joint at its highest point. The mouthpiece is usually on the bowl end of this pipe and the opposite end holds either another bowl or some type of filter percolator.
The function of this type of pipe is to use the filtering power of water to cool down and clean up the smoke from your bowl, making it easier to inhale. The water bongs are also known as percolator bongs, bubblers, or chillums. They have small percolators that filter out the tars and make it more enjoyable. These types of bongs can be expensive but they provide a smooth experience.
Hand Pipes
There are also hand pipes, known as one hitters, which are one piece that feature an enclosed bowl and mouthpiece. These pipes usually have a carburetor hole located at the top. The carburetor hole allows you to clear the bowl by sucking out its smoke by covering the hole with your finger while inhaling through the pipe. The mouthpiece is located at the bottom of this pipe and it serves as a place for you to put your lips, as well as a place to hold your lighter. There are also hollow bongs with two chambers and these are usually used for cannabis consumption.
Rig Bong
There are also rigs, which serve as a base for other types of pipes. They come in different shapes and sizes depending on the style of the rig creator. The most common type of rig is called a down stem or slide piece because it has an end that slides through another pipe or piece while your bowl sits inside. Another kind of rig is called a blowhole pipe, which is where the bottom dome seems to have blown its top which allows air to pass through it .
The basic features of a bong are:
A clear water chamber that contains water and is used to filter the smoke inhaled from the bowl.
The bowl is the main part of the pipe where it holds one or many smoking materials such as herbs, butane honey oil (BHO), or cannabis flower. A pinch of cannabis can be packed into a bowl by placing your material in a small glass or plastic container that will fit into your bong. The best thing about this method of consumption is that marijuana smoke does not cling to you when you take another puff.
Because they are so popular, there are actually a number of different types of bowls available for purchase on the market. The bowl that makes the best use of water is known as a percolator and it works by passing the air through perforations in the base, which allows it to pass through without filters.
The chamber is used to contain the smoke that is drawn from the bowl. It can hold a few inches of water or just an empty container. The chamber also needs to be clear in order for your smoke to reach your lungs.
The smoke tube connects your mouth with your bong. This tube slides through your down stem or slide piece and prevents air from escaping when you take a hit. Also, it serves as an easy way to clear out debris and bits of plastic while inhaling the carburetor is a hole located at the end of your bong that protects the rim of your pipe.
It allows for discharging smoke gently from your pipe, making it very easy to inhale but also making it more difficult for larger amounts of smoke to enter into the chamber. I hope this article was helpful. enjoy!
